Oakland Police Arrest Attempted Homicide Suspect

Oakland, CA — On September 14, 2012, Oakland Police Major Crimes Section investigators released information to law enforcement personnel regarding attempted homicide suspect John Tankersley.

Several hours later Oakland Police Captain Ersie Joyner observed Tankersley driving in the area of 38th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. With the assistance of patrol officers Tankersley was safely taken into custody. Captain Joyner credits patrol officers and investigators who used modern law enforcement technology that incorporates real time information sharing to the arrest.

Tankersley, male Caucasian, DOB 6-9-55, is an Oakland resident.

Background: On August 9, 2012, victim Robert Jacobitz, who is an Oakland resident, was stabbed multiple times by suspect Tankersley.
