On 09/13/12, a San Leandro resident received a fax at their residence. The unknown sender requested that the recipient return a fax to the sender including all their personal information.
The sender claimed to have inherited a large sum of money and they needed assistance transferring it. The recipient was extremely suspicious and immediately reported the incident to the San Leandro Police Department.
San Leandro Police Investigators attempted to locate the sender and they were not successful.
The San Leandro Police Department is sending this information out to educate community members. You should not provide your personal information to an unauthorized company or person. We believe the sender in this incident was involved in criminal activity.
Lt. Randall Brandt said, “Residents need to monitor where their personal information is circulated. You should never leave mail unattended and you should never provide your information to an unauthorized person.’
