DETAILS:

On 09-11-12, approximately 11:30 AM, a citizen observed a suspicious vehicle pull onto their property on Dutton Avenue, east of E. 14th Street.

The citizen immediately walked across the street to our police department and reported his observations to a couple of our detectives who were working on another case. He provided them with a description of the vehicle and they immediately dropped what they were doing and went to the area the vehicle was last seen.

The detectives made contact with the driver and they determined the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen earlier in the month in San Leandro. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for possessing the stolen vehicle. The vehicle was returned to its owner.

Lt. Randall Brandt said, “We are constantly encouraging citizens to report suspicious activity. This is a perfect example of what happens when they do. The citizen recognized something suspicious and immediately reported the activity to us. Detectives put aside a lower priority investigation to immediately investigate the matter and a stolen vehicle was recovered and returned to its owner.”
