Shortly before 5:00PM on Saturday, Sept 8, 2012, members of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Malibu Search & Rescue Team responded to Malibu Creek State Park to assist Los Angeles County Fire paramedics with an injured cliff jumper.
The cliff jumper was identified as 23-year-old male, a resident of Sherman Oaks. He injured his ankle as he entered the water, after he jumped off a cliff above the “Rock Pool” area of Malibu Creek State Park.
While paramedics rendered medical assistance to the injured male, personnel from the Sheriff’s Malibu Search and Rescue team immediately hiked to the location with a litter basket and litter wheel to rescue the injured man. Once he was placed in the litter basket, the injured man was hiked out of the location by Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team members.
Rescues in the park’s “Rock Pool” area have increased in the last few years in part, due to the abundance of videos posted on several social media sites.
“Thrill seekers are drawn to the cliffs above the Rock Pool water feature,” said Malibu Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Reserve Sergeant David Katz.
