Woman’s Body Found In Car In Canyon Off Mulholland Highway In Calabasas During Malibu Search and Rescue Training
On Saturday, September 2, 2012, at 12:12PM, the Sheriff's Malibu Search and Rescue Team (Malibu SAR) were scouting locations for upcoming training exercises on Mulholland Highway, approximately 2 miles east of Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas.
At one point a Malibu Search & Rescue team member saw something white at the bottom of the canyon and team members made their way down the hillside to the location where they found a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) on its roof.
When they investigated further they discovered the body of a woman, who appeared to be the driver, inside the vehicle.
Personnel from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
Once the Coroner completed the initial investigation, the Malibu SAR Team, using the teams’ hydraulic truck and winch system, hoisted the body from the canyon.
The car belonged to the deceased woman who did not have a city of residence as she had been living in her car. The investigation is being handled by officers with the California Highway Patrol.
