Partial, Sheriff's Escorted, RESIDENTS ONLY Re-Entry of Camp Williams, San Gabriel Mountains, Angeles Natiional Forest, N. of Azusa / Glendora

Firefghters from the U.S. Forest Service, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Cal Fire, and assisting fire agencies have now contained 48% of the Williams Fire. 1.) The scheduled, partial, sheriff's deputy escorted reopening only applies to people with identification that proves that they reside in these communities.

At 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012, residents who choose to reoccupy their homes must enter the area via Highway 39 in the San Gabriel Canyon area. Identification will be checked by San Dimas Sheriff's Station deputies and California Highway Patrol officers.

2.) It is estimated that about 2,000 recreational campers were evacuated on Sunday.

Most of the recreational campers were able to remove all of their camping equipment, but some did not have time to do so.

To assist these campers, at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012, San Dimas Station Sheriff's deputies will meet with the recreational campers at the El Encanto parking area, 100 North Old San Gabriel Canyon Road, Azusa.

Deputies will then escort the recreational campers into the mountains to recover their property. In order to go with the deputies and obtain their property, the campers are required to bring photo identification. Those claiming property will then be escorted into the canyon and given one hour to gather their property. They will then be escorted back out of the canyon. They will not be allowed to return, as the area remains closed to non-residents.

For further information regarding the re-entry into the forest area, please contact San Dimas Sheriff's Station, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at (909) 450-2700.
