On August 17, 2012 at 11:30 PM, two armed suspects robbed a family of their vehicle in the 3800 block of Foothill Boulevard, in Oakland. The family was able to escape the incident unharmed even though one of the suspects fired his weapon. The two suspects fled with the vehicle. On August 22, 2012 at 12:00 AM, California Highway Patrol Officers and Oakland Police Officers observed the stolen vehicle in the 900 block of 76th Avenue. After a short pursuit the officers were able to stop and arrest the two occupants. Officers recovered a firearm and a replica firearm from the vehicle.
Investigators have identified Robert Cole Jr. (DOB 8-24-87) who is a resident of Oakland, in connection with the August 17, 2012 carjacking and continue their investigation into the second subject.

On August 18, 2012 an officer from the Oakland Police Department noticed a suspicious van that had been previously reported by a citizen as possibly containing firearms. The citizen provided a detailed description of the vehicle and the license plate number. The officer observed a male subject, who was in possession of a handgun, enter the van. The van left the area of 46th Avenue and International Boulevard and was stopped by members of one of the department's Crime Reduction Teams (CRT) and members of the Gangs, Guns, and Intelligence Task Force. The van contained eight (8) subjects and three (3) handguns. The Oakland Police Department recovered the three handguns and charges are pending against several of the occupants on weapons and other related charges.

On Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 6:00 PM, Oakland Police officers arrested Darren Woods, a 24 year old resident of Oakland, in connection with the August 20, 2012 homicide of Lamon White in the 1800 block of Brush Street.
