Final four-lane section of US 10 currently scheduled to open to traffic on August 23. Ceremony to be 8/21 at 10:00am.

Ceremony planned for US 10 corridor between Marshfield, Stevens Point

A ceremony for the soon-to-be-completed new, four-lane alignment of US 10 will take place on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 beginning at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be located at the intersection of new US 10 and Wood County S in the town of Milladore. Ceremony attendees are advised to take existing US 10 and then go north on Wood County S.

The ceremony will begin with a presentation by local and state officials. After the ceremonial ribbon is cut, a caravan comprised of trucks owned and operated by central Wisconsin businesses will drive past the ceremony on the westbound lanes of US 10. The caravan symbolizes the importance of the new highway to the current and future economic growth of the area. The ceremony also includes an on-site reception until noon. Exhibits and photos of the corridor will be on display.

US 10 is part of an east/west principal arterial route serving central Wisconsin. It is a major commercial truck route connecting Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN and Green Bay/Appleton, WI. The highway serves as an important regional, state, and national link for business, industry, and agriculture.

This project included the expansion of 31 miles of US 10 between Marshfield and I-39 (north of Stevens Point). The new four-lane highway bypasses the communities of Auburndale, Blenker, Milladore, Junction City, and downtown Stevens Point. It represents a $244 million investment in central Wisconsin’s transportation system.

When the final segment of the new US 10 is open (target date August 23, 2012) the speed limit will be 65 mph. Controlled access on US 10 will increase safety and provide improved traffic flow. The western two-thirds of the corridor is designed as an expressway with at-grade intersections spaced one-mile, or more, apart. The eastern one-third of the corridor is designed as a freeway facility with access located at two diamond service interchanges with WIS 34 and one system-to-system interchange with I-39.
