Thank you, Oakland, for Making Last Night's National Night Out a Great Success!
Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan, and officers of all ranks and assignments, visited some of the record setting number of National Night Out block parties last night, National Night Out.
In 2004, Oakland hosted only 35 National Night Out Block Parties throughout the city. Every year since, the number of parties has grown until last year’s record of 544 parties. This year, even more neighbors stepped up to host a party bringing the total to 605.
“The fact that Oakland has grown the number of parties and participants each and every year is proof of Oakland pride, community, and partnership with its police department,” said Chief Jordan. “Thank you also to all of you, across the city, who organized your party, invited your neighbors, and either took the first or continued steps to make Oakland better and safer through communication and partnership!”

“On National Night Out, and each night of the year, every contact an officer has with a community member is an opportunity to begin or strengthen a relationship through the integrity, honesty, and respect of our actions. It was the Oakland Police Department’s pleasure to visit hundreds of block parties last night to show our commitment and partnership, and it is our privilege to do so each and every day after.”
