If the terms “Zone Crew” and “Assembly Area” are unfamiliar to you –read on.
When a fire or life safety emergency occurs, or a fire alarm goes off in your work area, it’s time to evacuate. Grab your keys and other personal belongings IF they’re readily accessible and leave through the nearest safe exit. Gather at one of the pre-designated ASSEMBLY AREAS on campus. Remain at the assembly area until the alarm is silenced and the ‘all clear’ to reenter is given.
To facilitate evacuations, many folks on campus are members of the ZONE CREW. The campus is divided into thirteen ‘Zones’ each with a Zone Captain assigned to it. Zone Captains have selected Building Coordinators to assist them. Floor Wardens, and in some buildings, Lab or Suite Representatives, are volunteers who assist the Building Coordinators. Zone Crew members can be recognized by the red, yellow or green vests that they wear.
To identify the assembly areas and zone crew members near you, go to http://www.police.uci.edu/ and click on “Campus Evacuation Zones” in the lower right hand corner. Move your mouse over the map until the area with your building is highlighted, and click. A list of all the buildings in the zone, and a description of their assembly areas are displayed along with the zone captain’s name. By clicking on an individual building, you can see the corresponding building coordinators and floor wardens.
