SUSPECT(S): White or Hispanic male, approximately 25 years old, Blue sweatshirt and jean pants. The subject was carrying a backpack. No weapon seen. Vehicle: Silver 1994 Jeep Cherokee.



DETAILS:

On 07/26/12, approximately 7:15 AM., San Leandro Police Officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was traveling at approximately 100 mph on East 14th St. The officers chose not to pursue the vehicle because they did not want to jeopardize public safety. The vehicle was involved in a property damage collision at the listed location. The driver that is described above fled on foot running east towards Sybil Ave. The suspect was last seen running into residential yards. A witness stated the subject was carrying a backpack. The witness thought the suspect may be armed based on him carrying the backpack. San Leandro Police units set up a perimeter and checked the area for the suspect and they did not locate him.

Lt. Randall Brandt said, “We used a lot of resources on this because there was mention that the suspect may be armed. This was never confirmed, however public safety is paramount therefore we wanted to make sure the residential area was safe.”
