LPD Lieutenant graduates from Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety

The Lakeland Police Department is pleased to announce the graduation of Lieutenant Ruben Garcia from the School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) at Northwestern University. Lieutenant Garcia has successfully completed the ten (10) week Staff and Command program held in Evanston, Illinois. This program was implemented by the Center for Public Safety in 1983 and has graduated over 9,000 students, both nationally and internationally. Lieutenant Garcia was a student in SPSC Class 330th and graduated on May 25, 2012.

The School of Police Staff and Command provides upper-level college instruction in a total of twenty-two core or mandatory blocks of instruction and utilizes nine additional optional blocks of instruction during each session. The major topics of study include: Management and Management Theory, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources for Law Enforcement, Budgeting, Staffing Allocation and Personnel Deployment. Each student is challenged through written examinations, projects, quizzes and two research papers.

The Lakeland Police Department anticipates a variety of benefits from Lieutenant Garcia’s attendance at this program. Congratulations to Lieutenant Ruben Garcia in his participation and graduation from this program.
