Road Construction update. Fire Danger remains HIGH and EMERGENCY BURNING RESTRICTIONS are still in effect. Be careful

Wood County

Highway: WIS 34 and WIS 66
Location: Wisconsin Rapids to Stevens Point
Schedule: May 14 to October 12, 2012
Cost: $5.1 million
Description: Improvements include: resurfacing WIS 66 (formerly County P); resurfacing WIS 34 between Edgewood Place and the WIS 34/66 intersection; and replacing four bridges on WIS 66. Crews will also install rumble strips along the centerline of WIS 66 (Portage County line to County HH) and along the centerline and shoulders of WIS 66 (WIS 34 to the Portage County line). The rumble strips are designed to reduce run-off-the road crashes.
Traffic impacts: WIS 66 is closed to through traffic. Traffic is detoured via WIS 34, Portage County P, and County HH (Old US 10). The highway is closed at the four bridge replacement locations. Local access to residences and businesses will be maintained throughout construction.

Highway: US 10
Location: White Oak Road to Trestik Road
Schedule: April 17 to mid-October 2012
Cost: $17 million
Description: Crews will pave the new alignment of US 10 from White Oak Road to Trestik Road, which has been previously constructed.
Traffic impacts: During construction, existing US 10 will remain open to one lane in each direction. Motorists should be alert for trucks crossing and slow moving vehicles.
• County K between US 10 and Tower Drive is closed and scheduled to reopen Friday, July 20.
• County E between US 10 and Tower Drive is closed and scheduled to reopen Monday, July 23.
• Brookside Road between existing US 10 and Tower Drive is closed and scheduled to reopen Monday, July 23.

Location: White Oak Road to Brookside Road
Schedule: July 20, 2011 to July 20, 2012
Cost: $9 million
Description: Crews are constructing a four-lane divided highway between Marshfield and Stevens Point. Crews will construct and prepare this section of the new alignment for concrete paving.
Traffic impacts: US 10 will remain open to one lane in each direction. Motorists should be alert for trucks crossing and slow moving vehicles.

Location: Klondike Drive to Wood County BB
Schedule: July 5, 2011 to December 2012
Cost: $12.3 million
Description: Crews are constructing a four-lane divided highway between Marshfield and Stevens Point. This project involves the construction of roundabouts at the US 10/ Klondike Drive/WIS 13 intersection, the new US 10/ County BB intersection, and the Central Avenue/ existing US 10 intersection. Crews will also construct and prepare the new alignment of US 10 for concrete paving.
Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter the following traffic impacts:
• WIS 13/80 at the south intersection with US 10 is closed. This location will remain closed until crews complete construction of the roundabout in October. During the closure, WIS 13/80 traffic will be detoured via WIS 13/73, WIS 186 and US 10.
• Motorists traveling south on US 10/WIS 13 will be able to access US 10 west. However, they will not be able to travel south to WIS 13/80 and will have to follow the detour.
• Motorists traveling north on WIS 13/80 will not be able to access US 10 west or US 10/WIS 13 and will need to follow the detour.
• US 10 from Central Avenue to approximately .25 miles the east is closed. Access will be maintained for adjacent property owners except for brief periods of storm sewer, grading or concrete work.
• The Washington Avenue overpass (town of Cameron) is closed. The overpass is expected to reopen in late July.
• The new alignment of US 10 from the WIS 13/Klondike Road intersection (town of Cameron) to Rock Inn Road (town of Auburndale) is open to traffic.

Motorists should slow down, use caution and stay alert when driving through construction zones. To avoid delays, consider taking an alternative route and avoid peak travel periods. For more information regarding traffic impacts in the North Central Region:

This applies to burning in barrels, debris piles, grass or wooded areas, building campfires, using fireworks, smoking outdoors or disposing matches, ashes, or charcoal briquettes into the outdoors.
