PRESS RELEASE

DATE / TIME OF RELEASE: 07-15-12 at 1:00AM CRIME: Possession of a Loaded Firearm

PRESS RELEASE OFFICER: Lt. Jeff Tudor TELEPHONE: (510) 577-3211

DATE / TIME OCCURRED: 07-14-12 at 10:26PM

LOCATION: 555 Lewelling Blvd. San Leandro, Ca.

INVESTIGATING DETECTIVE(S): Det. Sgt. Henderson

SUSPECT(S):

DETAILS:

Suspects: Male and Female, late 20’s. The names of the suspects are not being released at this time pending further investigation.

On 07-14-12 at 10:26PM, a San Leandro Police Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation in the parking lot of the Nimitz Motel, 555 Lewelling Blvd. While in the parking lot, the suspect vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed and drove around the officers patrol vehicle. The suspect vehicle exited the parking lot and drove into traffic on Lewelling Blvd in a reckless and unsafe manner. The suspect vehicle collided with a vehicle driving west bound Lewelling Blvd. As the officer approached the accident scene, both the driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle fled on foot. The officer chased the driver of the vehicle on foot and was able to take him into custody a short distance away. The female suspect was also taken into custody by the first cover unit on scene. While fleeing from the officer, the female suspect threw a semiautomatic handgun over a nearby fence. The gun was recovered and it was determined to be loaded.

The driver of the vehicle into which the suspects crashed was not injured.

Lt. Tudor said “This is an active investigation. The suspects, who chose not to accept responsibility for their illegal activities placed citizens and officers directly in harm’s way. It is fortunate that no one was seriously injured during this incident.
