Narrative:
On July 11, 2012, the Camarillo Police Department, Ventura County Fire Department, and American Medical Response (AMR) responded to the area of Arneill Road and Rocklyn Street for an injury traffic accident. Initial reports were that a vehicle struck a pedestrian riding a skateboard.
Upon investigation, it was determined by deputies that Lauren Thomas was driving her 1990 Toyota Camry northbound on Arneill Road, approaching the intersection of Rocklyn Street. The male juvenile was attempting to cross Arneill Road at the intersection of Rocklyn Street on his skateboard in a designated crosswalk when he was struck by Thomas’ vehicle; the male juvenile was not wearing a helmet.
The male juvenile sustained significant injuries and was treated at the scene, then transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks by AMR for further treatment.
The Camarillo Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind juveniles and their parents that children under the age of 18 are required by law to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle, skateboard, or scooter. Violators can be fined up to $120.00, but more importantly, wearing a properly fitting helmet can prevent significant injuries and possibly save their life.
