Hamburg Township Police Arrest Suspect in Coney Island Break-in
Hamburg Township police officers responded at approximately 1:19 am this morning to the Hamburg Coney Island, located at 9850 Chilson Commons Circle, on a burglary alarm. Upon arrival, officers found that the back door to the business had been forced open. Officers then observed a 1999 Dodge Durango driving north through the parking lot at a high rate of speed toward the exit to M-36.

Hamburg Township officers activated emergency lights and siren pursuing after the vehicle as it proceeded westbound on M-36 at a high rate of speed failing to stop. The vehicle lost control leaving M-36 and striking a railroad crossing signal west of Island Shore Drive. The vehicle came to rest on its side. Hamburg Township officers arrested a 27 year-old male Ann Arbor resident at the scene. Two other suspects fled the location on foot.

Evidence of the break-in was recovered in the vehicle and the Hamburg Township Police Department along with officers from LAWNET are actively searching for the other two suspects.

The suspects possibly escaped the area in a dark gray 2006 Jeep Commander bearing Michigan plate of “BDJ 8509” (vehicle has two hockey stickers in back window). The vehicle was stolen overnight from a residence in the area of the crash.

Anyone having information about this incident or the stolen Jeep Commander is asked to contact the Hamburg Township Police Department at (810) 231-9391 or provide the information anonymously through the TIP411 program which can be accessed through the department website: www.hamburg.mi.us/police.
