18 year old Oakland resident arrested for attempted residential burglary

DATE / TIME OF RELEASE: 7/9/2011, 12:40 PM CRIME: Attempted residential burglary

PRESS RELEASE OFFICER: Lt. Rick DeCosta TELEPHONE: (510) 577-3242

DATE / TIME OCCURRED: 7/9/2012 8:25 AM

LOCATION: 200 block of Reva Avenue

INVESTIGATING DETECTIVE(S): Det. Sgt. Calcagno

SUSPECT(S): Temidayo Gansah, 18 yr old Oakland resident

DETAILS:

On Monday, July 9th 2012, the San Leandro Police Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding a subject who was trying to break into a residence in the 200 block of Reva Avenue. The resident (victim) watched from a 2nd floor window as the suspect, who appeared to be holding a crowbar, walked up to her front door, attempted to turn the door handle and, using his body weight, attempted to push open the door. As the suspect attempted to force open the door, dogs inside the residence began barking. The resident watched as the suspect walked away from the residence and subsequently got into the driver’s seat of a black Infiniti parked nearby. The suspect then drove away from the residence, towards Preda Street. The resident told San Leandro Police Department dispatchers that the suspect was a black male, wearing a black hoodie – with the hood up over his head – and black jeans.

One of the Officers responding to the call saw a vehicle matching the description provided by the resident being driven on San Leandro Boulevard, approximately a half mile from the scene. The Officer initiated an investigative stop on the vehicle and suspect Temidayo Gansah, the sole occupant, was detained. The resident was transported from her house to the detention site where Gansah was positively identified as the suspect who attempted to break into the residence.

Lieutenant Rick DeCosta said, “This is another example of vigilance on the part of a citizen coupled with proactive, attentive police work resulting in the arrest of a daytime burglary suspect.”
