On June 22 and 23 Petaluma Police Dept. Traffic Unit conducted a 2 day motorcycle safety operation. Officers issued 72 citations, 10 of which were issued to motorcyclists. These citations included unsafe speed, right of way violations, unsafe turning movements, cell phone and pedestrian violations. In addition 4 drivers were issued citations for driving on suspended drivers licenses and one for driving without a license. All 5 of these drivers’ vehicles were impounded for 30 days.
On Friday at 9:50 AM Elizabeth Jeremias (45 years old) from Willits was stopped for driving erratically on East Washington St. near Hwy. 101. Jeremias was evaluated and determined to be under the influence of prescription medications. Jeremias was also driving on a suspended driver’s license and her vehicle was impounded for 30 days. Jeremias was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and driving on a suspended California driver’s license.
On Saturday at 9:20 officers were working speed enforcement of Lakeville Hwy. at South McDowell Extension. Kevin Klaut (24 years old ) from Santa Rosa was seen driving an Infiniti E/B on Lakeville Hwy. at 79 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. Motor Officer Dustin Rodrigues followed Klaut as he turned onto Pineview Way. Klaut sped away in an apparent attempt to elude Officer Rodrigues however Klaut was unaware of Pineview Way being closed due to a staged bicycle race which was in progress. Klaut was forced to turn into a parking lot where Officer Rodrigues contacted him. Klaut was found to be driving on a suspended California Drivers License and was also on probation for DUI, resisting arrest and possession of narcotics. The passenger in Klauts vehicle Alicia Miller (25 years old) from Santa Rosa had an outstanding warrant for DUI out of Marin County. She was also found to be in possession of prescription medication without a valid prescription. Klauts was booked into Sonoma County Jail for violation of probation and driving on a suspended license and Miller was issued a citation to appear for the warrant and possession of prescription medications. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.
