Today, June 24, 2012 at approximately 10:00 am an off-duty officer in full uniform stopped at the Taco Bell located at 4325 W. Camp Wisdom Rd. to purchase food. While in line, the officer observed the suspect, a B/M/18 with a marijuana cigarette in plain view. The officer attempted to make contact with the suspect. The suspect, who was armed, reached for his handgun. The officer saw the suspect reaching for his weapon and fearing for his safety, discharged his firearm at the suspect. The suspect was struck and was transported to a nearby hospital. At this time the condition of the suspect is unknown. The name of the suspect will not be released pending notification of next of kin. The officer, who is a 10 year veteran of the department, was not injured. At this time, the officer’s name will also not be released. A handgun was recovered at the location.
The incident is an on-going investigation and is being investigated by Dallas Police Department Special Investigations Unit. The incident will be filed under case # 155523-Z. There is no further information at this time.
