Hit and run leads deputies to solving a residential burglary and gun related assault with a deadly weapon.
On May 28, 2012 Compton station patrol deputies responded to a traffic collision on White Avenue /Rose Street involving a pedestrian and motorist. Upon arrival an adult male Hispanic was being treated by Fire Department personnel for his injuries. They discovered the victim had been run over by another male Hispanic after a brief verbal altercation. The suspect fled the scene driving a grey Toyota 4 Runner Sports Utility Vehicle. The vehicle was occupied by several other male Hispanics.
On scene deputies requested additional units and a police helicopter to search for the suspect. Shortly thereafter, the helicopter was able to locate the suspect in his vehicle at the Compton Fashion Center. The vehicle occupants were subsequently identified and arrested for the hit and run.
After being taken into custody and interviewed one of more of the suspects admitted to have committed a recent residential burglary and assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm. Gang Detectives assigned to the Compton Stations Operation Safe Streets Gang detail then sought a search warrant for the suspect’s residences. While executing the search warrant several firearms were found and confiscated. The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the Operation Safe Street Gang Detail.
