The LA Sheriff Cycling Team hosted its second annual Honor Ride held near Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station on Sat, June 16, 2012.
The event attracted 350 participants which far eclipsed the numbers from its inaugural year. A majority of the participants rode the challenging 62 mile course through the hills of Calabasas, Agoura, and Malibu, while a sizable number rode the intermediate 40 mile and novice 17 mile course.
Honor Ride cycling events are organized by Ride2Recovery and held throughout the country to support and honor both military and civilian personnel by raising funds and awareness for the mental and physical rehabilitation of our nations’ Healing Heroes, and to build custom adaptive bikes for their use.
Ride2Recovery supports Project HERO cycling programs at Military and VA locations around the U.S. to help healing heroes overcome obstacles they face. Cycling is an important part of the recovery and rehabilitation program for two reasons:
1. Cycling is an activity that almost all patients with mental and physical disabilities can participate.
2. Participation in the Ride 2 Recovery Program helps speed up the recovery and rehabilitation process.
