LOCATION: 400 San Leandro Blvd, San Leandro, Ca.
INVESTIGATING DETECTIVE(S): Det. Sgt. Henderson
SUSPECT(S): Markese Thomas, 27 year old, Oakland resident
DETAILS:
On 06-12-12 approximately 5:08PM, Markese Thomas and two other subjects were contacted by the San Leandro Police Department to ascertain if they were involved in a robbery that occurred in the 1100 block of San Leandro Blvd. Thomas and the two other subjects matched the description of the robbery suspects. During the contact, Thomas began to reach towards his waistband and would not obey with officers commands to stop. Fearing for their safety, officers attempted to physically control Thomas. Thomas continued to resist and kept trying to reach down the front of his pants. After a short struggle, officers were able to control Thomas and found a loaded semi-automatic handgun down the front of his pants. Thomas was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm and resisting arrest. The two other subjects were cooperative during this incident. After further investigation it was determined that Thomas and the two other subjects were not involved in the earlier robbery call.
Lt. Tudor said “The officer’s quick response and actions during this incident saved their lives today. Their ability to react under such dangerous circumstances is credit to their professionalism and dedication to serving the public.”
