PRESS RELEASE

DATE / TIME OF RELEASE: 06-05-12 at 10:00AM CRIME: Bank Robbery

PRESS RELEASE OFFICER: Lt. Jeff Tudor TELEPHONE: (510) 577-3232

DATE / TIME OCCURRED: 06-04-12 at 10:20AM

LOCATION: Fremont Bank, 1480 E 14th St. San Leandro, Ca.

INVESTIGATING DETECTIVE(S): Det. Rocha

SUSPECT(S): Booker Ross, 47 years of age, Oakland resident

DETAILS:

On 06-04-12 approximately 10:20 AM, the San Leandro Police Department received a call of a bank robbery in progress at Fremont Bank, 1480 E14th St. The suspect, later identified as Booker Ross, was last seen on foot walking towards the San Leandro Downtown Plaza. Ross was wearing a white long sleeve shirt and what appeared to be a dark colored wig. As officers responded to the area, Ross was observed at W. Estudillo and Hays St. Ross was holding the wig in his hand as well as an envelope which contained a note advising bank employees that he was robbing the bank. Ross was detained without incident and positively identified by witnesses.

It was determined that Ross entered Fremont Bank in disguise and provided a note to the teller that he was robbing the bank. Before he was able to obtain any cash, Ross ran out of the bank. It appears Ross felt that the police had been notified so he fled in order to avoid police contact.

On 05-22-12, Ross committed a robbery at Citibank, 1300 E14th St. During that robbery Ross was wearing a similar disguise and provided the teller a note which stated he was robbing the bank. Ross was able to obtain cash and flee the area without being located. Ross is currently on Federal Parole for bank robbery and was released three months ago from federal prison after serving 11 years.

Lt. Tudor said “Members of the Patrol Division did an excellent job locating and taking Ross into custody. Just as important were the quick actions by the involved parties in this case who alerted the police of this crime. This was a team effort between the community, business and police department.”
