SUSPECT(S): Deron Williams, 35 years of age, Oakland resident

DETAILS:

The San Leandro Police Department is pleased to announce the arrest of Deron Williams. Williams is suspected of committing 10 bank robberies and one attempted bank robbery in 11 different Bay Area cities. In the majority of the robberies he was armed with a firearm. On 10-05-11, Williams robbed the Bank of the West, 15075 Farnsworth St, San Leandro. The San Leandro Police Department was able to obtain DNA evidence that linked Williams to the Bank of the West robbery. On 04-23-12, Williams attempted a bank robbery in the City of Hayward but was interrupted by police. Hayward Police were able to obtain evidence that also identified Williams. During the bank robberies, Williams wore a sophisticated full face mask giving him the appearance of an elderly white male.

On 05-29-12, San Leandro Detectives were able to locate Williams in the 4100 Block of MacArthur Blvd. With the assistance of the Oakland Police Department, Williams was taken into custody without incident. Search warrants were executed at Williams’ residences in Oakland and Hayward. Detectives were able to locate additional evidence that implicated Williams to multiple bank robberies. Detectives also located a stolen van that Williams used during some of the robberies. On 05-31-12, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Williams with several counts of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, being armed with a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, and vehicle theft. The arrest and filing of a criminal complaint against Williams ended an 8 month investigation led by the San Leandro Police Department, involving multiple local agencies and the FBI.

Lt. Tudor said “A collaboration of resources, thorough investigative work and determination led to the arrest of Mr. Williams.”
