A local man was arrested on multiple charges early Saturday after allegedly fleeing from deputies after a routine traffic stop.
Cleatus Demont Davis, 37, who lists an address of 412 Grove St., was charged with fleeing on foot and refusal to submit to arrest, both misdemeanors, and cited for failure to signal. He was later released on $1,250 bond and is set to appear June 5 in district court.
According to reports, GCSD deputies Jon Lane and John Schroeder were at the intersection of Malvern and Grand avenues around 1:30 a.m. when they spotted a dark-colored Mercury Grand Marquis that failed to use a signal while turning onto Maurice Street.
They followed the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop while northbound on Valley Street, but the vehicle failed to yield and continued on Valley to Grand Avenue and then onto an alley near the railroad tracks where it finally stopped.
During this time, Schroeder notes it appeared that the driver, later identified as Davis, was reaching under his seat. When they made contact, Davis opened his car door and Lane told him to close it. Davis told them his window did not roll down, so Lane told him to slowly open the door.
After he was out, Schroeder started to pat him down for weapons, when Davis allegedly turned and fled north on foot across Grand. They chased him and caught him in the nearby creek and detained him until backup arrived.
Other deputies and Hot Springs police officers helped take him into custody without further incident.
