Man hit by gunfire in Covina (Co.), suspect arrested by LASD San Dimas deputies

At about 10:42 p.m. on Friday May 18, 2012, deputies from the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station responded to a call of “shots fired” in the 16600 block of Masline Street, Covina (unincorporated community).

Additional information was received that the shooter fled the scene in a red car.

Responding deputies saw the described car stopped on a nearby street. Upon seeing the sheriff's patrol car, the lone occupant fled on foot.

Deputies searched the area with the assistance of a Sheriff’s helicopter and were able to locate the shooter, 26 year old Suspect Justin Tino from Temple City. The suspect was taken into custody and booked for assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in lieu of $1,075,000.00 bail.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had allegedly fired numerous rounds at the victim, a 21-year-old Los Angeles man.

The victim was shot multiple times. A friend took the victim to a local hospital where he was admitted for treatment of his gunshot wounds.

The car that Suspect Tino was allegedly driving had been reported stolen several weeks earlier. Deputies recovered a handgun from inside the car.

The shooting is believed to be gang related.
