5-11-12: Two men report residential robbery and auto theft. Vehicle recovered in 4600 block of on 5-14.

On 5-11-12, officers were sent to the apartments at 3308 Eddy on a residential robbery. Two victims, Jason White WM 18 and Richard Boyd BM 17, reported that they had been robbed in their apartment. They told officers that on 5-11-12, at about 10:00 AM, three men knocked on the door at their apartment. Boyd recognized one of them as a white male that had been to their apartment the day before to try to sell White a car. When Boyd opened the door on the 11th, the WM suspect, a Hispanic male suspect, and a black male suspect rushed in. They forced Boyd to a bedroom where White was sleeping. One or more of the suspects began striking the two victims with fists and a metal bar. The HM suspect produced a handgun and demanded the victim’s car keys. The suspects searched the apartment and took clothing, an X-Box, games, car keys, and other property. One suspect took the victim’s identification and told them not to call the police because they knew where they lived and they would return. The suspects ordered the victims to stay in the bedroom and left with the stolen property. The victims sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention. No arrests were made on that event.
On 5-14-12, at 4:26 PM, White re-contacted the police to report that his tan 2001 Toyota had been stolen from the parking lot at 3308 Eddy. The keys to the vehicle had been taken in the 5-11 robbery. At about 6:45 PM, a witness that knows the victim and knew his car was stolen saw the vehicle driving in the area north of the 1200 block on SW 48th and reported this to the police. An officer spotted the tan Toyota travelling southbound in the 4600 block of S. Ong. The vehicle pulled over and parked as though it was stopping at a home in that block. The officer stopped behind the vehicle and confirmed it was stolen. As the officer was taking the driver into custody, he broke away from the officer and fled. The officer pursued the man through yards in the 4600 block of Ong. When the man ran between houses, the officer deployed a TASER, striking the man in the back. The man stumbled and appeared to comply, but the conducting wires of the TASER were broken and the suspect ran to the alley, where the officer lost sight of him. Moments later, an officer spotted the man in the 4600 block of Cline and took him into custody. The TASER probes were still in the suspect’s back. This suspect was Justin Scott Tingley WM 18 of Amarillo. He was booked into the Randall County Jail for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest. One of the two passengers in the Toyota, Michael Anthony Reyes WM 18, was booked into the Randall Co. Jail for an outstanding class “C” warrant for a possession of narcotic paraphernalia charge. The third occupant of the car was interviewed and released without charges.
No charges have been filed for the robbery at 3308 Eddy and the investigation into this matter is continuing.
