Teen watches in hiding as suspect burglarizes her house, provides information that leads to parolee's arrest

A brave 13 year-old Chula Vista resident is being credited with providing information that led to the arrest of a parolee who burglarized her house while she watched from under her bed.

The incident began at about 10:21 a.m. in South Chula Vista when the teenager, who was home alone, heard a noise coming from her parent’s bedroom. She walked to the hallway and saw a male subject removing the bedroom window, then ran to her own room where she hid under her bed. The victim sent a text message to her mother, telling her to call police because someone was breaking into their house.

While hiding under her bed, the victim heard the suspect moving throughout her house, and then watched as he entered her room and began looking through her dresser. When he was done, the suspect left.

The victim called 911 and gave dispatchers a description of the suspect. Responding officers contacted a person matching the description and found he had in his possession property that was taken from the victim’s house. The suspect was arrested, and later transported to county jail.

The suspect was identified as Maurice Faulkner, a 52 year-old parolee from Chula Vista. Faulkner will be arraigned in South Bay Court on Thursday, 5/17/12, at 1:30 p.m.
