Protect your bicycle from thieves! #tips #lapd #dtla

You spent a lot of money on your bike. It's what gets you to your job and more. Protect it! Follow these tips and share them with your fellow riders.

Record the serial #, make and model, of your bike and put in your cell phone

Take pics of your bike

Etch your frame with an ID# like your Cal driver's license #

Learn how to lock your bike

Lock your bike even at home in your garage or on your balcony

Use high quality locks like a U-lock

If your bike is stolen, look for it on Craigslist, but call detectives if you find it. We'll "buy it back" for you. : ) But this is where etching your bike is so important in the first place; it helps prove ownership.

Do not leave your bike unattended or unlocked even for "just a minute." Thieves can steal a bike in seconds!

Thieves have stolen 55 bicycles from #DTLA so far this year. They stole over 150 bikes last year. Half of these bikes were left unlocked.

Undercover officers have arrested 13 suspects in bike stings so far this year in #DTLA.
