A 9-1-1 call was made to Palmdale Sheriff’s Station at 10:18 Saturday morning reporting a 15-month-old baby was not breathing at a home on 85th Street East, in Littlerock.
Coincidentally, LASD Palmdale Station Deputy Shaffer and Parks Bureau Deputy Towne were nearby on the same street when the call came out and quickly arrived. At the home, the deputies found the baby boy not breathing so they started Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
They were told that a 16-year old family member had gone outside and found the baby laying on the grass face down near the pool, not breathing. Likely what had happened was a 9-year-old family member with a developmental disability had apparently taken the baby into the family pool. An older brother called 9-1-1.
The deputies continued CPR until Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics arrived and continued the CPR while transporting the baby to a hospital in an ambulance. Deputies used their patrol cars with lights and sirens to block traffic in the intersections so they could expedite the arrival time of the ambulance to an area hospital.
When the baby arrived at the hospital, medical professionals found that he had a pulse. Shortly thereafter he began labored breathing on his own.
The baby was airlifted to another hospital for specialized treatment where he is in critical condition. Preliminarily this incident appears to be an accident.
