Saugus: Zone 4 Update - Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information
Snapshot: 04-30-2012 to 05-06-2012
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station
Crime Prevention Unit
This week we had a rise in vehicle burglaries and thefts from unlocked vehicles. The incidents primarily occurred in an area east of Bouquet Canyon Rd., between Espuella Dr. and Paraguay Dr., however we did have reports throughout the entire Saugus area.
The thefts are happening between the hours of 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. We will be conducting extra patrol checks in that area and an upcoming special enforcement operation. To protect yourself from becoming a victim of this type of crime I urge all of the residents of Santa Clarita to lock their vehicles whenever leaving it unattended. Please take any items of value with you or place them in an area away from the window or visible from outside the vehicle.
If you see suspicious activity or kids wondering the area late at night please contact the station at (661)255-1121 and notify them of what you see. The city of Santa Clarita has a curfew municipal code (11.56.040 SCMC) stating: It is unlawful for any minor under the age of eighteen (18) years to remain upon any public street, avenue, highway, road, curb area, public building, place of amusement or eating place, vacant lot, or unsupervised place between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The crime of theft from unlocked vehicles is often a crime of opportunity. The suspects are checking door handles late at night looking for vehicles that are unlocked. It is possible that the suspects are checking every vehicle on a street before moving onto another street.
