Two Injured in Motorcycle versus Car Traffic Crash
Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports on 05-10-2012 at approximately 11:10 am deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to personal injury traffic crash that involved a motorcycle and a car on M-51 south of Edwards St. in Pokagon Twp.
A vehicle being driven by 64 year old Donald St-Cin of Benton Harbor was southbound on M-51. St-Cin was slowing down to make a right turn into a private driveway when it was rear ended by a motorcycle being operated by 46 year old Robert Schmeltz of Dowagiac.
Both Schmeltz and St-Cin were transported to Borgess Lee Memorial hospital in Dowagiac for treatment. Due to the seriousness of Schmeltz's injuries, he was later transported by Air-Care to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment.
St-Cin was wearing a seatbelt, Schmeltz was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Alcohol was not a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene was Pokagon Twp. Fire Department, and Pride Care Ambulance Service.
