Canyon Country West: Zone 7
Snapshot for the week of 05-06-12

In my last update, I stressed the importance of securing your vehicles and homes in an effort to make it harder for criminals to obtain your property. I must reiterate how important it is to police yourself and make certain your personal property is protected. Last week alone we had (6) petty thefts (Residences/Retail Stores/Vehicles) and (1) Grand Theft/Auto. All which could have been avoided with a little more care and attention to detail.
It is unfortunate we live in a time where we cannot leave our doors unlocked or our possessions unattended without fear of someone willing to take our hard earned property. However, it is reality and there are steps you can take in order to better your yourself:
1. LOCK YOUR DOORS!! You must secure your residences/vehicles. Failure to do so not only invites criminals to steal your property but makes it too easy for them as well.
2. Do not leave items in your car in plain view. If you have to leave important possessions in the car, at the very least, lock them in the trunk.
3. Whether you are in a restaurant, retail store, etc., keep your wallets and purses/bags securely on your person. Do not leave them unattended at any time, thus giving someone an opportunity to steal your property.
4. If you have young children and allow them to leave your residence and run to the car for an item, check and make sure they have re-secured your vehicle.
5. Do not leave items unsecured in your front yard, making it easy for anyone walking by to take your bike, lawnmower, or anything else. This includes leaving your garage doors down when you are not outside.
Although no plan is fool proof, these simple steps, along with taking an extra couple seconds in order to ensure everything is secure will help us combat some of the criminal element we face daily.
