On May 8, 2012 at approximately 12:33 AM, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 4400 block of Summit Dr. on a collision in which a motor vehicle struck a tree. Upon their arrival they found that a 2006 Chevrolet regular cab pickup had been southbound on Summit when it left the roadway, struck a mailbox and slammed into a tree at a high rate of speed. The driver of the truck, George Aaron Edison, BM, 39 of Amarillo, died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Justice of the Peace Clay Houdashell ordered a toxicology examination of Mr. Edison. Speed is a factor in this collision. Edison was not wearing his seatbelt. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Unit of the Amarillo Police Dept.
