PRESS RELEASE

DATE / TIME OF RELEASE: 05-02-12, 11:30 PM CRIME: Burglary

PRESS RELEASE OFFICER: Lt. Jeff Tudor TELEPHONE: (510) 577-3232

DATE / TIME OCCURRED: 05-02-12 01:19 AM-2:20AM

LOCATION: Area of Dutton and MacArthur Blvd, San Leandro, California

INVESTIGATING DETECTIVE(S): Det. Ruff

SUSPECT: Brian Anderson, 40 years of age, Dublin resident

DETAILS:

On 05-02-12 between the hours of 1:00 AM and 2:10AM, officers responded to three separate burglaries at Galvan’s Market, 368 MacArthur Blvd, Portofino’s Italian Restaurant, 599 Dutton Ave, and Purple Pepper Pizza, 368 MacArthur Blvd. In each of the burglaries the suspect (identified as Brian Anderson) threw a large stone through the front glass door to the business and the loss was either the cash register or part of the cash till. During the burglary at Galvan’s Market a license plate of the suspect vehicle was provided by a witness. A registration check of the plate came back registered to a residence in Dublin. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department was contacted regarding the vehicle and they advised that the vehicle is possibly being driven by Anderson. Information was passed on to local agencies regarding Anderson and the vehicle he was driving (Saturn). Anderson is known to the San Leandro Police Department and to the SLPD Burglary Division. In 2009, Anderson was arrested by the San Leandro Police Department for committing multiple “window smash” commercial burglaries and a parole violation.

On 05-02-12 at 2:20AM, the Alameda County Sherriff’s Department located Anderson driving the Saturn in the area of Mattox and Foothill in Castro Valley. Anderson led deputies on a low speed chase which ended in the area of Hesperian and Lewelling Blvd without incident. SLPD officers responded to the area and took custody of Anderson. In the vehicle Anderson was driving, broken glass and large stones (similar to the ones used in the above burglaries) were located.

Lt. Tudor said “The San Leandro Police Department wants to thank the witness and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department for assistance in the arrest of Brian Anderson. Mr. Anderson has a history of committing burglaries and damaging property in San Leandro. The partnership between community and law enforcement is critical to public safety and in this case lead to the arrest of a serial commercial burglar who preys on our local businesses.
