City-wide U-Turn Ban Repeals at 12:01am Tuesday; Revised ordinance allows safe U-turns unless sign says otherwise

Franklin, TN – Starting at 12:01am Tuesday morning, Franklin’s city-wide ban on U-turns is history. The revised ordinance will allow drivers to complete a U-turn as long as it can be made safely, without interfering with other traffic, and as long as there is not a ‘No U-Turn’ sign posted. The ordinance authorizes the City Engineer to identify and post ‘No U-Turn’ signs at intersections deemed too dangerous for U-turns. Franklin City Administrator Eric Stuckey said “The updated ordinance will afford some convenience to drivers who have been, under the old ordinance, very broadly prohibited from making a U-turn. There are certain circumstances that, if completed safely, U-turns can be a viable option for drivers.
