Sunday night auto burglary arrest leads to stolen vehicle recovery.
Cushing – Sunday night just after 11:30 p.m., off-duty Cushing police officers Rachel Hentges, off-duty Payne County Deputy Lt. Nick Myers, and another person observed a male subject, later identified as, Tevin Neal Chrisp, WM, 18, rummaging through a vehicle that was parked in the O’Reilly Auto Part parking lot, 1143 E. Main Street. Believing the actions to be suspicious, Officer Hentges continued to observe Chrisp. Chrisp later exited the vehicle with items in hand and proceeded to walk across the street to the B&B Car Wash, where he went through the items taken. Officer Hentges then contacted Chrisp, where she identified herself as a Cushing Police Officer. Officer Hentges then stood by with Chrisp, until Sgt. Mark Jobe and MPO Justin Sappington arrived, at which time she advised them of her observation. Based on the information provided, Chrisp was subsequently arrested on a complaint of 2nd Degree Burglary of an Automobile by Sgt. Jobe.
While trying to identify the owners of the property recovered during a follow-up interview with Chrisp, Sgt. Jobe received information regarding a 2nd auto burglary committed by Chrisp. The information led Officer Matthew Piatt to a Ford pickup that was parked in the Braum’s parking lot, 1313 E. Main Street. During the check of the vehicle registration, Officer Piatt determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Stillwater. After following up with Stillwater Police Department, Sgt. Jobe released both the vehicle and personal property to the owner.
Chrisp was held in the Cushing jail overnight and then transported to the Payne County jail this morning.
"I want to commend the good police work done by Officer Hentges, Sgt. Mark Jobe, MPO Justin Sappington, and Officer Piatt" Chief Terry Brannon said. "The good investigative work resulted in a solid arrest” Brannon said. “Once again, I hope the work done in this case will send a strong message that we are committed to serving our citizens, and holding those we believe are responsible, based on the evidence, are held accountable,” Brannon said.
