RENEW OUR RIVERS CLEANUP
The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office is working to clean up the county by joining the efforts of Renew Our Rivers this week.
More than 35 inmates, from the Substance Abuse Prevention Program (SAPP), will spend the week, supervised by deputies, picking up trash and removing debris from the river banks of the Coosa River.
“We want to do our part to keep Etowah County clean and beautiful,” says Sheriff Todd Entrekin. “I want to encourage everyone to get out and clean up their community. Etowah County is a beautiful place to live. We need to keep it that way.”
Inmates began work with the Renew Our Rivers campaign today, Monday, April 30 and will continue through Friday, May 4. Collected trash and debris can be seen in the parking lot of the Mort Glosser Amphitheatre.
Renew Our Rivers is an award-winning environmental river cleanup program that began as Renew the Coosa, a vision of retired Alabama Power employee Gene Phifer. More than 10 million pounds of trash and debris have been removed from Alabama and Southeast Rivers since the campaign began.
