Advisory

Harper Woods police officers have arrested two suspects for Attempted Murder / Carjacking overnight.

At 1:38 am this morning, the Harper Woods dispatch center received a 911 call requesting help for two people who were the victims of an attempted carjacking in Detroit. The victims informed the dispatcher that they were on Gratiot near Eight Mile Road in Detroit when a male suspect approached them with an automatic weapon and demanded their vehicle. The victims refused, both victims were then shot by the suspect.

The victims were able to flee and drove E/B on Eight Mile towards Harper Woods, now being pursued by the robbery suspects. The victims were directed to the Harper Woods Police Department where Harper Woods officers were dispatched to meet them. The victims made it to the rear of the police station, the suspects continued to pursue them, chasing the victims around the parking area.

Arriving Harper Woods officers requested assistance and were able to stop the suspect’s vehicle on Harper in front of the station as it was attempting to leave the area. Officers took the driver into custody and recovered an AR-15 with a 100 round drum magazine inside the vehicle. Officers were advised that the passenger in the suspect’s vehicle had fled on foot.

Harper Woods officers were assisted by Grosse Pointe Woods, Farms, and Shores police officers and after an extensive search, located the second suspect on Beaconsfield near Woodmont.

The victims were transported to St. John Hospital in Detroit by Med Star ambulance. Both suspects were turned over to Detroit PD. The suspect’s vehicle was reported as stolen. It had been taken in an earlier carjacking near Wayne State University.
