Advisory

Cleona Borough Police warn residents about bicycle thefts.

Bicycle theft is something that happens in seconds and there is an increase of bicycle thefts when the weather becomes warmer. The Police encourage residents not to make it easy for the thief.

The police recommend that you:

1. Lock the bike with a case-hardened steel U-bolt or a theft-proof chain, securing it at least through the frame to an immovable object
2. Avoid leaving even a locked bicycle in a public area overnight including the Borough Park.
3. Make sure to write down your bicycles serial number, make, model, and any other unique identifying information about the bicycle in the event it is stolen to assist Police.
4. Do not leave bicycles unsecured in front or side yards or in plain view of thieves.
5. Residents can have their bicycle registered with the Police Department.

Without the bicycles serial number Police CAN NOT:

1. Enter a bicycle as stolen into the statewide computer system used for reporting and tracking stolen items
2. Determine if a thief is in possession of a stolen bike
3. Determine the owner if the bike is found or located

The Cleona Police suggest you photograph your bicycles including the serial number. With most people owning a digital camera or a cell phone equipped with a camera you can assist Police in recovering your property. This same method can be used for electronic equipment or other valuables in the event those items are stolen.

If your bicycle is LOST or STOLEN please notify Cleona Police at 274-2510.
