Newhall: Zone 6 Update - Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information

Newhall: Zone 6 Update - Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information

Snapshot for the week of 04-23-12
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station
Crime Prevention Unit

I received a lot of positive feedback from my last zone update that I sent out on 04-17-12. I thank you for that. It is my goal to get these updates out to you, the residents of Newhall, in a frequent and timely manner. As your zone leader I am responsible for a detailed review of all crime within our zone on a daily basis. I also hope to rely on you, the residents in Newhall, to be involved with public safety and crime prevention by providing confidential crime tip information as indicated at the end of this message. If you see something, say something. We must all work together to strengthen our partnership, avoid becoming easy targets of property crimes, and send a "Not in Santa Clarita" message.

Now onto the latest trends in Newhall:

During the late night hours on Sunday, 04-08-12 the glass front door to a business located at the 23500 block of Lyons Avenue was broken in a commercial burglary. This adds to our theft related challenges in the Lyons Avenue area (between Peachland Avenue and Wiley Canyon Road).

I am tracking an increase in vehicle burglaries where tools were stolen (i.e. hammers, drills, saws,) from inside the vehicles. We can make a difference by working together to ensure valuable items, such as purses, wallets, iPhones, GPS systems, and even tools are not left inside unattended vehicles. This seems to be occurring in the Newhall Avenue area close to Valle Del Oro and Dockweiler Drive.

We had a single vehicle stolen (2003 black Ford SUV) from the Highway 14 freeway / Newhall Avenue park and ride area. The vehicle was left parked for a period of almost three days. When the owner returned, the vehicle was missing.

I am asking you to encourage your neighbors, friends, and family to also receive alerts from their zone leader, from Santa Clarita Station, and from their local government agencies by visiting www.nixle.com.

I plan to continue to send out updates regarding the Newhall area. Kind of like a “virtual neighborhood watch” for our zone.

Partner to prevent or report crime by contacting your Sheriff’s Station or if you wish to remain anonymous, call “LA Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.

A free TipSubmit mobile application is now available for the iPhone® and Android™. The new software tool is an anonymous and fully featured crime tipping mobile application that even allows you to submit images or video. More information at www.tipsoft.com.
