As the weather continues to improve and more sunny days come our way, historic trends show that there is generally an increase in vehicle burglaries and stolen vehicles. One example of a couple who stole a bait car vehicle last year continues to be investigated by the Arlington Police Department, sparking a request for help from the public with identifying the suspects.
On June 14, 2011, Dispatch was notified of a bait car activation on a pickup parked in a residential area in the North District. This vehicle was not under direct surveillance, causing officers to search for the truck’s location on the GPS system. Once officers were able to arrive at the vehicle location, the suspects had fled and abandoned the truck. Based on the video surveillance taken from the interior of the bait vehicle, the couple planned to return to the truck later but failed to do so.
The male suspect is described as a black man in his 20s, who was wearing a dark-colored shirt with stripes, a blue baseball cap with a Superman logo and had multiple tattoos. The female suspect is described as black woman in her 20s wearing black cropped pants, a pink-colored tank top. Photos of the suspects are attached to this email. The Arlington Police Department’s C.O.B.R.A. (Covert Organized Bait Recovery and Apprehension) bait car program is a proactive effort to catch vehicle burglars and car thieves in the act. The program is a cooperative effort between the Arlington Police Department, the Fort Worth Police Department, the National Insurance Crime Bureau and the Tarrant Regional Auto Crimes Task Force. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Arlington Police Auto Theft Unit at (817) 459-5324 or Crime Stoppers at (817) 469-TIPS (8477). All tipsters remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
