CITY OF NEW PORT RICHEY REVIVES SISTER CITY PROGRAM
Cultural Affairs Committee Sends Letter to Cavalaire sur Mer, France
New Port Richey, FL (April 18, 2012) – The City of New Port Richey’s Cultural Affairs Committee has revived the Sister City Program begun in 1995. New Port Richey’s Sister City is Cavalaire sur Mer on the French Riviera. The City dedicated Cavalaire Square to honor this sisterly connection and cultural link, and monument signs at either end of Main Street proclaim the Sister City relationship. “Over the years New Port Richey has lost touch with its Sister City,” says Committee Chair Derek Smith, “and it is already a part of our community, so we felt it was appropriate for the Cultural Affairs Committee to take the lead in reestablishing New Port Richey’s connection with Cavalaire sur Mer.”
A letter to Cavalaire sur Mer, drafted by Cultural Affairs Committee members, has been graciously translated into French by the New Port Richey City Library French Club. This letter from the community will accompany a copy of Images of America: New Port Richey.
The letter is available at the front desk of the City Library, located at 5939 Main Street, until April 30. Residents are invited and encouraged to sign their names to this letter, to be sent along with the book, to Cavalaire sur Mer.
With help from the community, the Committee is planning a rejuvenation project for Cavalaire Square. The refurbished Cavalaire Square will celebrate New Port Richey’s renewed relationship with Cavalaire sur Mer and the importance of culturally-relevant community gathering places.
