The Arlington Fire Department continues to evaluate reports of damage due to the storms that came through the city this afternoon. Emergency Warning Sirens sounded in Arlington at about 1:30 p.m. The storms caused damage to buildings, homes and vehicles. Emergency personnel had seven reported injuries related to the storm. At this time, one of those injuries is critical. Approximately 150 homes had damage that ranged from debris in yards to severe damage.
It is estimated that there are approximately 12,600 Arlington residents presently without power. Gas and electric companies are working to restore power and gas to affected customers.
The more significant damaged areas include:
· Green Oaks Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in the 3000 block of W. Green Oaks Blvd., which sustained heavy damage, including a roof collapse in one portion of the center. The facility was evacuated with one person driven by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries. Approximately, 35 residents were relocated to other local nursing homes.
· There was some roof damage to the Chesterfield Apartments in the 5700 block of Median Way and overturned vehicles. Two buildings had severe damage. In a nearby neighborhood close to U.S. Highway 287, 25-30 homes also had damages.
· In Oldfield Neighborhood, which is just south of the 4500 block of W. Pleasant Ridge Road, there are reports of approximately 100 homes with damage and one injury reported.
· Information about additional damage continue to be reported, mostly in the southwest region and other areas along Interstate 20 and S. Cooper Street. The majority of those issues include roof and structure damage.
