Volunteers to help map driveways for Broadband service needed. Free GPS mapping training as well as mileage reimbursement.

We need help!

Upper Valley- Lake Sunapee Planning Council needs volunteers to do mapping for the region's broadband network.

GPS Training for Broadband Mapping Project
Come to a free GPS unit training on Wednesday, April 11th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission, 10 Water Street, Suite 225, Lebanon, NH. Shane Bradt, a Geospatial Specialist from UNH Cooperative Extension will be providing the training. The main objective is to train volunteers for a Broadband mapping project, but everyone is welcome. Bring your own GPS unit or share one of our units.
Volunteers will be trained to work in 25 of the Commission’s towns to GPS residential driveway locations. This information will be corresponded to surveys received by UNH indicating where broadband (high speed internet) is available and where it is not. Identifying gaps in service is a critical first step towards expanding and improving broadband in New Hampshire.
Volunteers working a minimum of four hours on this project will be able to borrow a GPS unit in the future for private projects like mapping stonewalls, trails, school or municipal projects. Mileage expenses will be paid for GPS work.
The Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission is working with the New Hampshire Broadband Mapping and Planning Project in conjunction with all regional planning commissions in the State, the University of New Hampshire, and the National Telecommunications & Information Administration.
Visit www.uvlsrpc.org and search projects to find the Rural Addressing project description with volunteer application forms and more information. For registration or questions, please contact Victoria Davis at 448-1680 or [email protected] .
