Paving scam targets area residents

The Worcester Police Department would like to alert citizens to be aware of a paving scam. The scam begins when homeowners are approached by worker(s) of what appears to be a legitimate paving company. The homeowners are told that the paving company has extra asphalt left over from a previous job. The workers promise to patch up potholes or repair the homeowner’s driveway for a reduced price. After paving begins, the workers attempt to charge the homeowner for an excessive amount. These types of scams seem to target the elderly. Citizens should be advised that reputable paving companies rarely solicit business by walking door to door.

If you should come in contact with someone operating a scam you can send an anonymous text to 274637 TIPWPD + your message or send an anonymous web based message at Calls can also be made to the Worcester Police Detective Bureau at (508) 799-8651.
