DUI Saturation Patrols held over weekend in Chula Vista
Chula Vista - Officers from the Chula Vista Police Department conducted DUI Saturation Patrols on Friday, March 23rd and 24th, 2012 within the City of Chula Vista.
The DUI Saturation Patrols were aimed at increasing public awareness, decreasing the number of drivers who drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as well as insuring drivers have a valid driver's license
Over the two evenings, traffic stops were conducted on 70 vehicles for traffic violations. 7 persons were evaluated for driving under the influence and 5 of the drivers were arrested for DUI. One of the drivers was cited and released for being under 21 years old and being over a .05% BAC. One of the DUI drivers arrested was also charged with felony child endangerment. One driver was placed under arrest for an outstanding drug warrant and driving on a suspended license and was later found to be in possession of methamphetamine. 2 subjects were cited for minor in possession of an alcoholic beverage and another for having an open container in their vehicle. 7 drivers were driving on a suspended license and another 4 were unlicensed. 6 vehicles were impounded on a 30 day hold and another 5 vehicles were impounded with no holds. 13 citations were written for various other vehicle code violations.
This was considered a successful DUI Saturation Patrol. The Chula Vista Police Department is continuing its efforts to keep our community safe by detecting and deterring impaired drivers. The Chula Vista Police Department is asking for the public’s continued assistance throughout the year to Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1.
