Trooper Javier Arana was killed in an automobile accident as he responded to assist a vehicle pursuit in El Paso at approximately 1:30 am.

During the response Trooper Arana’s vehicle collided with a pickup truck near the intersection of Joe Battle Boulevard and Bob Hope Drive. Trooper Arana’s patrol car burst into flames upon impact.
Trooper Arana had served with the Texas Highway Patrol for two years. He is survived by his wife and children.

AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Texas Department of Public Safety is mourning the loss of a DPS trooper who died in El Paso after a two-vehicle crash around 1:30 am Saturday.

Javier Arana Jr., 32. was responding on a pursuit call when his patrol car was struck by a Ford Ranger at the intersection of Joe Battle Blvd. and Bob Hope Dr. in East El Paso.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Trooper Arana’s family and friends,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw.

Two men in the other vehicle were transported to area hospitals. The driver of the Ford Ranger, 18-year-old Edgardo Antonio Flores, was transported to Del Sol Medical Center; the passenger, 20-year-old Josue Alejandro Guerrero, was transported to University Medical Center.

Arana graduated from the DPS Academy in November 2010 and was stationed in El Paso.

He is survived by a wife and children. Arana is the 87th DPS employee to die in the line of duty.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
