Escondido Man Arrested for Rape
On March 22, 2012, at approximately 4:07 PM, the Escondido Police Department Communications Division received a call from a 65-year-old female reporting a rape that had occurred 2 days prior. Officers responded to the 300 Block of West Vermont Avenue in Escondido and contacted the victim.
The victim reported that the suspect, a maintenance man in the apartment complex where she resides, entered her residence under the pretense of doing some repair work. While inside the apartment, the suspect raped the elderly victim. After the crime was committed, the suspect left the residence.
The victim contacted police two days later and while police officers were investigating the initial crime, the suspect arrived on scene and was identified by the victim. Officers on scene arrested the suspect and transported him to the Escondido Police Department where detectives from the Family Protection Unit could continue the investigation.
Upon review of the physical evidence and statements by all parties involved, detectives booked the suspect into the Vista Detention Facility on the following charges:
• PC 261(a)(2)-Rape by force or fear
• PC 209(b)(1)-Kidnapping with intent to commit rape
• PC 368(b)(1)-Elder abuse
• PC 289(a)(1)(A)-Digital penetration by force or fear
• PC 243.4(e)(1)-Sexual battery (2 counts)
The suspect has been identified as Reginaldo Lopez-Beltran, 50-years-old, of Escondido.
