FIRST DEGREE ASSAULT
On March 20, 2012, at approximately 9:09 p.m., an Anne Arundel County Police Officer conducted a traffic stop for minor traffic violations on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the area of Donaldson Avenue and Old Donaldson Avenue in Severn.
During the traffic stop, the operator of the Jeep Cherokee attempted to strike the uniformed officer as the suspect fled the traffic stop. The officer had to jump into the travel portion of the roadway to avoid being struck by the fleeing suspect vehicle.
Officers followed the suspect vehicle until the intersection of Chapel Gate Drive and Waugh Chapel Road in Odenton, where the suspect failed to stop for a red light. As a result, the Jeep Cherokee struck a civilian vehicle at the intersection. The operator of the civilian vehicle, a 54-year-old male, was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The suspect was arrested and subsequently charged with First and Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment and numerous traffic-related charges.
